The Restaurant

Els Tinars restaurant is currently run by the third generation of the Gascons-Lloveres – Palagós Vergés family. Its story goes back to 1918 when the parents of Elena Gascons Vergés, the grandmother of Marc and Elena, ran a bakery. Elena Palagós was married to Eduard Gascons, who at that time worked in the cork trade, one of the few industries which existed at that time. Without having the least idea of how to run a restaurant, in 1950 they rented premises situated on the promenade in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and decided to open an establishment, the Restaurant Bahia.

History

The family tradition dates back to 1950, when the grandparents, Eduard Gascons and Elena Palagós, opened the Bahía restaurant on the Passeig del Mar in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. In a short time, the establishment achieved great success, and with the massive arrival of tourism to the Costa Brava, it also transformed into a well-known nightclub. A few years later, in the 1960s, the second generation joined the restaurant—Eduard Gascons Jr. and his wife Maribel—after training at various hospitality schools.

In the 1970s, the young couple decided to open a restaurant in a traditional Catalan farmhouse located in a strategic area at the foot of the highway connecting Barcelona and France with the Costa Brava. Thus, in May 1978, Els Tinars was inaugurated, eventually becoming a renowned destination for lovers of Catalan gastronomy. Today, the third generation, Marc and Elena, run the restaurant, staying true to tradition while embracing high levels of creativity.
